How to break into the US speaking market

For many speakers the US speaking market is the holy grail of speaking.  If you make it in the US, you’ve made it.  It’s certainly one of the markets that pays higher fees for speakers, but at the same time it’s competitive and standards are high.  So how do you get into this market, what does it take and what’s going on there?

These are questions you don’t often get to ask a booker based in North America, but I did on my podcast. I spoke with Tami Adams founder of TA Speakers Management.

We discussed what the current state of the speaking market is in North America in comparison to Europe.  What’s happening with fees.  What clients are currently looking for from speakers.  What it takes to succeed and trending topics.

We covered a lot more of course and it’s worth a listen (I know I’m biased).  Seriously though, it’s worth listening because keeping up with the market and what is going on locally and internationally is part of running your speaking business.  Listen Here

It’s not always easy to find out what’s happening in the market, but bookers and meeting planners are a great source of intel.  Speaker Bureaus are a particularly good barometer and source of information, often ahead of market trends, because they need to be finding the next hot topics and pre-empting their client’s needs.  So, as well as listening in to this episode, go sign up to some Speaker Bureau newsletters and read some Speaker Bureau blogs.  Find out what they are saying, keep up to date and in tune with the market.
